tl;dr: 4/5, creative, haunting, reminiscent of one of my favorite novels - House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.
Review
I enjoyed Piranesi1. I went in blind by just having it be recommended in GoodReads. The cavernous and dark Halls that Piranesi lives amongst, the statues that secure him, the tides that threaten to drown and swallow. All of this painted such a curious landscape that I couldn’t get enough. I was very immersed.
Plot-wise, a big twist is revealed somewhat early on, which I felt was an interesting choice by the author. The remainder of the novel is unraveling the twist’s secrets, learning the motivations of other characters, and following how Piranesi grapples with choice.
At 272 pages, this is a fun and quick read. Go pick it up. I’m going to explore some of the author’s other work.
